April 2011 – $100

Getting things rolling a few days later than usual this month. Talk about busy . . . in addition to teaching my regular roster of private lesson students, last week consisted of the Amaloboozi fundraiser for my upcoming trip to Uganda, a West African percussion presentation at Willamette University, 36 drummers performing in my annual student recital AND moving my belongings 15 miles to a new apartment.

But, back to it!

Now that all of that is out of the way, it’s time to pass another couple bucks off to somebody! As you know, each recipient’s project is funded by a gig that I am playing that respective month. Well . . . not always playing. This month, it’s a teaching gig!

2011 April - money - The Donating Drummer

April’s winner will get $100 to make their idea/goal a reality, made possible by a residency that I will be conducting at Newby Elementary School in McMinnville, Oregon. I’ll be presenting my “Sights & Sounds if Ghana” music and culture program, but what’s different about this school residency, compared to most that I do, is that I’m doing a total of 60(!) sessions. For the better part of a month, I’ll be spending time with Newby K-5’ers, exploring West African percussion, language, dance and more. There will also be an in-service workshop with the teachers and a family night performance featuring myself and many of the kids!
